NFC East: Draft Grades

New York Giants Position of Need: WR, DL, TE, OL

1st Round Pick 12 Odell Beckham WR – Might have been a little too high for my taste. However this is a position of need and a great player at the position. B+

2nd Round Pick 43 Weston Richburg C– Solid pick should start this year if not next year, he also gives the offensive line more depth at guard. Probably could have got him lower, but it is pretty clear that him and Beckham were their guys and they got them. B

3rd Round Pick 74 Jay Bromley DT– Anther position of need get addressed, however I am not sure if this was the best player available at this position in the draft. With the reach for this kid and the Giants inability to devlop defensive tackles I am not too sure about this pick, there were more impactful players still on the board. C-

4th Round Pick 113 Andre Williams RB- The best pick the team made. Not a position of need however the Giants love running backs like Williams and he will fit great in their system. Drafting who could be the best running back in the draft in the 4th round is a great pick. A

5th Round Pick 152 Nat Berhe SS- Not a position of need and he is undersized for a strong safety. The Giants will need to find successors to their current aging safety group so a solid pick. C

5th Round Pick 174 Devon Kennard OLB – A big outside linebacker who showed promise but never lived up to his hype. If the Giants find a starter out of him then it is a great pick however it is way too early to tell. C+

6th Round Pick 187 Bennett Jackson CB – Jackson should compete on special teams early while he develops into an NFL cornerback. Being a producer right away and having a chance to turn into a contributor on defense it is a pretty solid pick. B-

The Giants met some needs and should have three offensive starters out of this class in the near future. Overall Grade: B

Dallas Cowboys Position Needs: QB, DL, OL, S

1st Round Pick 16 Zach Martin OT – The Cowboys made who many believe is a sure pick but I thought his ceiling was too low to go higher than the bottom of the first round. Zach should be a day one starter and upgrade Dallas’ offensive line. B

2nd Round Pick 34 Demarcus Lawrence DE – After losing most of their pass rush in the offseason the Cowboys had to get somebody to replace the production. Lawrence is raw, athletic and versatile. I like this pick and believe Demarcus will only get better from day one. A-

4th Round Pick 119 Anthony Hitchens OLB – He is an undersized outside linebacker who might never start a full season in the NFL. There were better players left on the board. C-

5th Round Pick 146 Devin Street WR – A tall thin receiver with good hands however he is not much of a blocker and he loses at the line of scrimmage at times. He has a chance to do well in Dallas. C+

7th Round Pick 231 Ben Gardner DE – Dallas sure seems worried about not being able to put pressure on the quarterback. I do not think Ben has a chance to be an impact pass rusher but he will add depth to a depleted linebacker core. C+

7th Round Pick 248 Ahmad Dixon SS – Seems like Dixon will serve as a special teams player at best and may be the 5th and final safety to make the squad. C

7th Round Pick 251 Ken Bishop DT- Will more than likely be asked to play DE in 3-4. If he can plug his holes and keep the linebackers clean then this may be a great value pick. B

7th Round Pick 254 Terrance Mitchell CB – He was a pretty good player in college who will contribute on special teams while he learns how to play in the nickel. B-

The Cowboys have two instant starters from their first two picks and could have a surprise come out of the wood works. I do not believe that the team got better this offseason to close the gap on Philadelphia. Overall Grade: C

Philadelphia Eagles Position Needs: WR, LB, S, CB

1st Round Pick 26 Marcus Smith – I am not a fan of picking for need in the first round especially when the draft is as deep as this one. Chip will have at least a year to groom Smith and he clearly sees something in him that I did not and it was a position of need. B-

2nd Round Pick 42 Jordan Matthews WR – I love this pick, a relative of Jerry Rice and he has the size and speed that any offensive coordinator loves. I think he could turn into the best receiver to come out of this draft and it is a position of need for the Eagles. A

3rd Round Pick 86 Josh Huff WR – Reunited and it feels so good! It might have been a little bit of a stretch but Huff could be great in the slot and he already knows the system. B+

4th Round Pick 101 Jaylen Watkins CB – I did not care for any of the Florida defense on film, however the kid is versitille and has good speed. B+

5th Round Pick 141 Taylor Hart DE – Another Oregon player drafted by Chip. Hart can easily become a 3-4 end in a few seasons and provide good depth. B-

5th Round Pick 162 Ed Reynolds S – I like him and do not see why he slipped to the 5th round. Two he was a menace in pass coverage and if Chip can get him back to that form then he found himself a steal. B-

7th Round Pick 224 Beau Allen DT – A true nose tackle who will at least add depth to the position, he is not a bad pick for the 7th round. B-

So the rich get richer, in my opinion the Eagles distanced themselves even more from the rest of the division. Overall Grade A

Washington Redskins Position Needs: DL, LB, CB, OL

2nd Round Pick 47 Trent Murphy OLB – Murphy slipped because of his lack of athleticism however he is instinctive and good enough to start in the NFL. He may be moved inside or left outside but either way I like the pick. B

3rd Round Pick 66 Morgan Moses OT – A great value in the third round and should find a starting spot right away. A-

3rd Round Pick 78 Spencer Long OG – Another good pick and could be a day one starter but eventually he should break the starting lineup. B

4th Round Pick 102 Bashaud Breelend CB – Could be a sleeper that might have come out a year early. If he winds up being a long term starter this was a way better than the grade. B-

5th Round Pick 142 Ryan Grant WR – A decent pick for the round and could produce early as a 4th wide receiver. C+

6th Round Pick 186 Lache Seastrunk RB – He reminds me of a Darren Sproles and just might pay hige dividends. However he is a little bit of a hot head claiming his game has no weakness, yet he did not catch one pass season. B

7th Round Pick 217 Ted Bosler TE – Washington needed to add depth at tight end and at the least that is what Bosler will do. C+

7th Round Pick 228 Zach Hocker K – It is never a bad idea to take the best kicker available. C+

Washington did pretty well considering they did not have a 1st round pick. They have four possible starters for next season. Although I do not think their draft was better than Philadelphia that is up to RG3. Overall Grade B
