2017 Defensive Ends

1. Myles Garrett - #15 Texas A&M, 6'5'' 270 4.64, 94 - Dominant edge rush prospect who is also good vs the run. He possesses a prototypical blend of size and athleticism. Very quick off the ball. He is excellent at dipping his shoulder then going to his counter spin move. He is best suited to play DE in the 4-3 but I can see a 3-4 team being intrigued by him at OLB. Garrett should be the 1st pick in the draft and should live up to that billing.

2. Solomon Thomas - #90 Stanford, 6'3''273 4.69, 89 - Solid vs the run and has dominant pass rush ability. Can slide inside to Tackle on pass downs and some think that will be his eventual position. Was double teamed a lot in college. His tape is not as consistent as I would like but tape vs North Carolina in his bowl game was amongst the best in this class. I'm not quite as high on him as most are. I still think he should be a top 10 pick.

3. Derek Barnett - #9 Tennessee, 6'3'' 265 4.88, 87 - Dominant pass rusher. Has a great first step and excellent quickness. A step slow out of his stance vs the run. Only adequate vs the run. Despite the huge loss Barnett ate up Alabama LT Cam Robinson. He was easily able to get around Robinson at will. Looks and plays bigger than his listed weight of 265 lbs. Barnett has that unique blend of strength and burst you look for in a Defensive End. He should come off the board early.

4. Takkarist McKinley - #98 UCLA, 6'2'' 250 4.59, 82.5 - Undersized disruptive edge rush prospect. Plays much bigger than his size. Sets the edge better than you'd think a 250 lb player could. Has long arms and big hands. Athletic enough to play in coverage as a 3-4 OLB. That said his biggest value to teams will be his pass rush ability. He needs to develop more moves but the raw talent is there.

5. Charles Harris - #91 Missouri, 6'3'' 253 4.82, 80 - Harris has a quick first step and is a relentless pass rusher. He has an impressive spin move. Struggles to anchor against the run. He didn't show improvement in 2016. He regressed if anything. Can play the edge spot in the 3-4 or 4-3 but he's most effective with his hand on the ground and ears pinned back. Undersized but he should be able to put on some weight. Pass rushing is at a premium and Harris has high upside in that area.

6. Taco Charlton - #33 Michigan, 6'6'' 277 4.92, 77.5 - Taco is a high upside pass rush prospect who only became a full-time starter his senior year. He progressed every year at Michigan. He has the ideal length for the position with 34 1/4'' arms. Quick twitch athlete who is well put together. He could get much bigger and stronger while maintaining his superior athleticism. Taco's upside alone is enough to get him drafted in the 1st Round. I think there is some bust potential here.

7. Tim Williams - #56 Alabama, 6'4'' 252, 76 - Speed rush type who wasn't a full-time starter in college. He should easily find a home as a pass rusher in the NFL. His film jumps out at you. He is very quick off the ball and is an incredible athlete. He has failed multiple drug tests and was arrested for a gun charge. May have had trouble picking up Alabama's play book. Williams is highly talented and push rushing is always at a premium but there are major red flags here.

8. Chris Wormley - #43 Michigan, 6'5'' 298 4.82, 74.5 - His tape doesn't jump out you but his size and technique make him a valuable commodity. I don't see much pass rush potential in him but he should have a long career due to his ability to play the run. Has he ability to slide inside on pass downs. He does have a decent bull-rush so it's not like he's worthless on pass downs. Blocked multiple kicks in college.

9. DeMarcus Walker - #44 Florida State, 6'4'' 280, 74 - Walker was 2nd in the FBS with 16 sacks in 2016 and 10.5 in 2015. You would think someone with those numbers playing for Florida St. would be a bigger deal. His work ethic is in question. That is something that is hard to evaluate from a computer. His tape looks fine. It doesn't look like someone you'd expect to have 16 sacks. Even his 4 1/2 sack performance vs Ole Miss couldn't really be called dominant. It was more like every positive play he had ended in a sack. Players with poor work habits usually go bust in the NFL. With Walker it seems to have already been worked into his draft stock. He's worth a look in the 2nd or 3rd Round.

10. Carl Lawson - #55 Auburn, 6'2'' 253, 73.5 - Looks the part of an undersized pass rush specialist. Very quick off the line. Disruptive but not an elite playmaker. He has a lot of plays where he looks great but still doesn't beat his man. Has excellent strength(35 reps) and looks like he can put on bulk. Has had injury concerns in he past. Lawson won't be drafted late but he may fair better than a few players ahead of him.

11. Tarell Bashum - #93 Ohio, 6'4'' 269 4.7, 72 - Bashum was MAC Defensively Player of the year in 2016 with 11.5 sacks. He has all the measurables you look for except for his poor performance in the bench press. He only put up 15 reps. His lack of strength along with the lack of competition make him a questionable prospect for me. That said, if he plays up to his tape he will be a pass rush specialist at worst.

12. Daeshon Hall - #10 Texas A&M, 6'5'' 266 4.76, 72 - Intruiging, versatile prospect who has played multiple positions including OLB. Last season was his 1st playing as a traditional DE. That looks to be his best fit in the NFL. He's not a natural pass rusher but has tools in that area. He should be able to get much bigger and stronger. Hall is a project who will likely be overdrafted. He will need to find the right team and position to be successful.

13. Devonte Fields - #92 Louisville, 6'4'' 240, 54.5 - Undersized pass rush type edge player who does have some experience in coverage. Not impressive on film but does appear to have adequate athletic ability.
