2019 Defensive Ends

1. Nick Bosa #97 Ohio State – 6'3’’ 275 4.75 - 96 - Dominating player who explodes off the ball. Bosa is one of the top prospects in this draft and compares favorably to his brother Joey.

2. Clelin Ferrell #99 Clemson Jr. – 6'5’’ 265 4.77 - 92.5 - Long, athletic, playmaking Edge defender. Ferrell is an excellent pass rusher who fires out of his stance very quickly and might be an even better run defender. He sets the edge well and is constantly getting penetration into the backfield.

3. Montez Sweat #9 Mississippi State – 6'6’’ 241 4.6 - 90 - Relentless pass rusher who is very fast around the edge. Has a lean build especially in the lower body. That may hurt his ability to play the run in the NFL. He will likely have to be a 3-4 outside linebacker or situational pass rusher. Either way he should be a good one who gets drafted high.

4. Jachai Polite #99 Florida Jr. – 6'2’’ 260 4.8 – 89.5 - Excellent pass rusher who gets upfield quickly and has multiple moves. Effective against the run as well. Jachai has a good motor and is usually in the right position in addition to being a playmaker. He had 11 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, 4 passes defended and 5 forced fumbles this season.

5. Chase Winovich #15 Michigan – 6'2’’ 258, 4.7 - 87.5 - Disruptive player against the run and as a pass rusher. Chase always seems to be around the ball. Great instincts. Very good at sniffing out the screens. Has the speed and technique you are looking for in a pass rusher despite only having 4 sacks in 2018. He had 8.5 sacks in 2017 and 32 tackles for loss combined over the last two seasons.

6. Rashan Gray #3 Michigan Jr. – 6'5’’ 287 5.0 - 83.5 - Has to win with power more than speed which may hurt him at the next level. Above average but not elite athlete who is best suited to play End in a 3-4.

7. Brian Burns #99 Florida State Jr. – 6'5’’ 235 - 81 - Great speed and quickness for the position but is too undersized. He will need to be able to play some linebacker and has very little experience in coverage. Flashes elite pass rush ability.

8. Carl Granderson #91 Wyoming – 6'5’’ 261 4.75 - 75 - Granderson has the frame and athletic ability you are looking for. He has an array of pass rush moves but only had 3 sacks in 2018. Tape suggests he is closer to the player he was in an excellent 2017 campaign. Solid run defender who hustles sideline to sideline.

9. Oshane Ximines #7 Old Dominion – 6'3’’ 252 4.65 - 74 - Ximines put up big numbers in Conference USA. It looks like he has skills that will translate to the next level. He seems to do better when he pins his ears back and rushes aggressively. He also has a less effective stop and start change of pace type move where he might be trying to bat down the pass too often.

10. Ben Banogu #15 TCU – 6'3’’ 240 4.7 - 73.5 - Consistently gets the edge with his speed rush. Gets angular and makes himself hard to block. Banogu is undersized and doesn’t have much coverage experience. He may be a bit underrated due to those factors.

11. Jaylon Ferguson #45 Louisiana Tech – 6'5’’ 255 - 73 - Can beat his man with double moves in the pass rush. Had superior production against mediocre talent. Held his own but did not dominate when he got his chance to shine against Mississippi State.

12. Austin Bryant #7 Clemson – 6'4’’ 268 4.77 - 72 - Solid but not spectacular. Gets the job done with power more than speed. That may hurt him at the next level. Not an elite pass rusher.

13. Jalen Jenks #97 Oregon – 6'5’’ 244 4.8 - 70 - Decent pass rusher who excels with his speed rush. Gets blown off the ball too often in run defense. Will likely have to play outside linebacker and learn how to cover to be an NFL starter. Had a much better season in 2017 than this year.

14. Joe Gaziano #97 Northwestern Jr. - 6’4’’ 275 4.79 - 65 - Solid football player. Might be a tweener. Not quite quick enough for End and not quite strong enough for tackle. Might project best as a situational inside pass rusher.

15. Anthony Nelson #98 Iowa – 6'7’’ 260 4.82 - 64 - Gets off the ball quickly and has good had use. Has the frame to put on some weight. Decent athlete for his size. Good enough to contribute early in his career but doesn’t have tremendous upside.

16. Youhanna Ghaifan #93 Wyoming – 6'4’’ 290 4.85 - 63 - Strong player who might be better suited to slide inside at the next level. Has better pass rush ability inside.

17. Joe Jackson #99 Miami Jr. – 6'5’’ 258 4.65 - 62 - Jackson has a lanky build and lacks strength because of it. He has a quick first step and some pass rush ability. Struggles when teams run the ball at him and has too many plays where he is a non-factor.

18. Daelin Hayes #9 Notre Dame Jr. – 6'3’’ 260 4.7 - 57.5 - Fundamentally sound and disruptive player in college. Lack of production and unspectacular tape suggest he will just be a serviceable player in the NFL.

19. Porter Gustin #45 USC – 6'4’’ 267 4.8 - 56 - Lacks the athleticism and explosiveness needed to rush the passer and the strength to hold the edge right away. Has a good motor and some pass rush ability. Might have some upside if he stays healthy. Limited to just 10 games in the last two seasons.
