Hangman Page cut a promo and “Swerved” Swerve by faking an ankle injury and taking out Strickland with a chair.
Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli def Eddie Kingston & FTR – Rating *** ½
Gino’s take – Really good match that got too sloppy for my liking towards the end. It seemed like all six men were the ring the final five minutes of the match.
Chris Jericho had a promo talking about his opponent for the show Atlantis Jr. from CMLL
Will Ospreay had an in-ring segment with Don Callis, Will Hobbs and Takeshita. There was a stare down between Ospreay and Takeshita ahead of their match at Revolution.
Orange Cassidy def Nick Wayne – Rating ***
Gino’s take – Decent but random match. I would have rather seen Nick Wayne go against Daniel Garcia who has a match with Christian Cage at Revolution.
Bang Bang Scissor had another segment that didn’t really do anything for the group.
Skye Blue def Kris Statlander – Rating ** ¾
Gino’s take – It was about the story of Stokley Hathaway trying to cheat for Kris but it back firing which will surely cause trouble in their group. The ending wasn’t very good but the action was okay for most of it.
The Young Bucks having looking for Sting all show with baseball bats. They thought they found his locker room but there was just a bunch of black baseball bats hanging for the ceiling. Cool throwback to WCW.
Chris Jericho def Atlantis Jr. – Rating *** ¼
Gino’s take – The action was good. The promo segment explaining Jericho’s relationship with his opponent’s father Atlantis in Mexico helped. I wouldn’t say it was a strong main event by AEW standards.
The show’s closing segment saw the Young Bucks finish their search for Sting by going out to ringside. Darby Allin was sitting in the first row in a Sting mask and foolishly tried to fight the Bucks all by himself. Ric Flair came out. He pretended that he was on the Bucks side but also foolishly tried to fight them himself. This led to the Bucks taking them both out and walking back up the ramp. Sting came down from the rafters. He, Darby and Flair stood tall to end the show.
Gino’s take – Sting coming down from the rafters was absolutely the right way to end the go home show. It was really clunky getting there though. I guess part of their plan was for Darby and Flair to get their ass kicked.
Overall Rating – 7.25/10
2024 Average Rating: 7.64
Final Thoughts – The opening segment with Hangman Page turning full heel on Swerve and Sting coming down from the rafters were significant enough to make this a newsworthy go home episode of Dynamite. It really wasn’t too strong of a show outside of that.
